Mojang Studios and Merlin Entertainment have announced plans for an official Minecraft-themed park, Minecraft World, set to open in 2027.

The new attraction is planned at Chessington World of Adventures in Greater London. According to Merlin Entertainment, the project will cost £50 million to develop.

Minecraft World is expected to include a Minecraft-themed roller coaster, along with themed shops and dining. Merlin described the coaster as a world-first Minecraft ride. The company also said the area will feature fan-favourite elements and attractions based on the game’s universe.

Mojang and Merlin also said they are working with a selection of well-known Minecraft creators to help shape the experience. No names have been announced yet. Mojang’s senior creative director of entertainment, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, said the goal is to bring the Minecraft universe to life authentically for fans around the world.

Minecraft World joins a growing list of video game-themed attractions that have opened in recent years, including PokéPark Kanto in Japan and Super Nintendo World in Universal’s Orlando resort. The new project is described as the first UK theme park based on an official video game IP.

With its planned 2027 opening, Minecraft World will bring one of gaming’s biggest franchises into a major UK theme park setting for the first time.
